Character Name: Miles Matheson
Series: Revolution
Age: 48-50
From When?: volume 4 of the wrap up comics, when Rachel ends things.
Inmate/Warden: Warden. Miles is a soldier and a leader when it comes down to it and he can be patient and something of a moral compass. He does have a temper and get frustrated, but it also takes a lot to make him give up on someone or something.
Item: -- a smartphone.
Abilities/Powers: Miles is skilled in combat, swords being his preferred weapon, although he's good with guns and rifles too. He's a strategist as well.
Personality: The first time Miles Matheson pops up in Revolution, he doesn't seem like someone who'd be able to run a militia, but there are moments when the General comes through. Still, at first he just seems tired and looking for a way out, although he takes up the cause of defeating Monroe and rescuing his nephew when called out on his bullshit, basically.
Barge Reactions: Miles will probably react well given he's agreed to come of his own will. The fact it's powered will take some getting used to, but he's adaptable and he'll probably be grumpy at first with the way events happen, but he'll get used to them. As for encountering people from other worlds, I think for the most part he'd be pretty calm about it unless it's something he's encountered in his own world and even then, he's not the type to flip out.
Deal: [(WARDENS ONLY) -- To bring Connor Monroe back
History: http://revolution.wikia.com/wiki/Miles_Matheson
Sample Journal Entry: [Agreeing to become one of these Wardens had most likely been the equivalent of a deal with the devil, but there were some things that were worth the risk. However, Miles had taken his time familiarizing himself with his surroundings before it came to using the device he'd been provided.]
Since there's not much reason to bother with hiding it here since my name doesn't mean a thing here. [Which is a nice change from people wanting to see him dead because of it.]
That's really all you need to know about me, though.
Sample RP: After close to 17 years of living in what amounted to a pioneer style setting, the ship is going to take a little getting used to. Not that he's complaining because he remembers what having power was like and it's actually something he appreciates having back, even if it's not possible back home. The bar is really nice and it's one of the first place he settles him in after exploring the ship and taking advantage of some of the benefits of having power.
A glass of whiskey in front of him, he's staring down into it, his gaze pensive as he considers how to proceed. For the moment, he's responsible for noone, but that's subject to change at any moment, and all things considered, it can't be worse than trying to keep Bass and Rachel in check.
Rachel.
Miles rubs a hand over his eyes, his mind flashing back to the final moments in that village. She'd finally set things right at the cost of her own life, and he respected her choice. She'd entrusted Charlie to him though, and while he'd accepted the charge, Charlie had proven herself more than capable of handling her own business. Bass had been the one he'd worried about. There was a limit for how much a person could handle and seeing Bass's face after Connor had stopped.
Well, there was something he could do about that., which was what had led him here. Miles raised the glass to his lips and drained it before sliding off the stool.
Time to get started then.

Still, at first he just seems tired and looking for a way out, although he takes up the cause of defeating Monroe and rescuing his nephew when called out on his bullshit, basically.
Miles initially seems most comfortable keeping people at a distance, looking after them but also keeping a wall between them, his decisions tactically sound, although he does relinquish some control to Charlie in terms of life or death. He's a soldier, first and foremost, fighting coming as naturally to him as breathing, although he's managed to subdue his dark side. The truth is, while he stepped back from the front lines, Bass became more unstable, stepped in to do the things he no longer had the stomach for, and in doing so, drove Miles to leave. And Miles seemed pretty comfortable on his own, living under an as yet unidentified assumed name in Chicago although that life went down the drain when Charlie showed up, looking for her only remaining family like Ben had told her to. Which means Miles kept in touch with Ben, even if he never showed up in their village.
Miles has a good heart most of the time, although it doesn't keep him from making the difficult choices. He has complicated relationships with the women in his life as well, from his relationship with Charlie and her mother to his relationship with Nora Clayton. Nora is probably the most stable romantic option Miles has had in his life, the woman willing to call him out on his bullshit and give as good as she gets. They make an excellent team as well.
Rachel Matheson, on the other hand, seems to be the perennial forbidden fruit in his life and the one drug he can't seem to quit. From the affair while she was still married to his brother to whatever their relationship is during the latter part of season one and season two, he seems to be frustra ted with her more than anything else, as much as he's patient with her mistakes, with her views, with her closed-mindedness. And Rachel relies on him. She turns to him because she has nobody else and when it comes down to choosing between her and Bass, Miles chooses her. Not that it lasts.
Now his relationship with Bass is definitely the most prominent and complicated relationship in his life and Miles seems to have this ability to attract the unstable. He and Bass have been to hell and back more than once in their lives and even when they're at complete odds, they still work together like two sides of the same coin. They seem to rise and fall together though, and even separate, if there's a threat, Bass comes back to help deal with it.
And Miles lets him. He needs Bass around whether he's willing to admit it or not because they only seem whole when they're together. Miles can survive on his own, but something in him seems to thrive more when Bass is around, the two of them irrevocably bound together. The complement each other as well in combat. Miles tends to be the voice of reason while Bass is the berserker. Where Miles gets angry, Bass can be positively vicious, and they both carry their own scars, regrets, and burdens. Miles is however, one of the few people who can get through to Bass when he goes to the darkest places and pull him out. Separating them while good in the short term is more likely to destroy them both in the long run.

When it comes down to it, Miles seems to be at his best when he's taking care of other people, as much as it drives him up the wall sometimes to do it. He listens to them though, and if he's able, tries to comply with their wishes although it doesn't always work out that way. He's a protector, a soldier and that's where he excels generally. Killing people who pose a threat to his family doesn't bother him one bit, but he's also capable of showing mercy when it's called for.
Miles Matheson is no saint though, and while he fell prey to his own darkness for a long time, he's managed to claw himself back to being the type of man he wants to be, for the most part. He has his share of ghosts but at his core, he's trying to do the right thing this time around. Whether he succeeds or not, that remains to be seen.
